The Madiba Award honours a leader of African ancestry in Durham Region whose struggle embodies Nelson Mandela’s values, visions, and commitment to overcome barriers in his long fight for freedom and equality.

SELECTION CRITERIA

• A nominee (young person or adult) whose contributions to Durham Region supports and uplifts the community at large, and particularly members of the Black community including children and youth.
• The nominee must have played a significant role in enriching the lives of others over an extended period of time by exceptional service through work, community service or a cause.
• The nominee who demonstrates outstanding leadership skills, including initiative, dedication, integrity.
• The nominee’s achievements will be evaluated in relation to circumstances or obstacles overcome.
